Olympus is the highest mountain in Greece, known worldwide mainly for its mythological context, as at its top (Mytikas, altitude 2,918 meters) lived the Twelve "Olympian" Gods according to the religion of the ancient Greeks. Its magic is hidden in its paths and corners, in the tall trees and wild rocks, as well as in the gorges with the waterfalls.
It is one of the most picturesque villages of Olympus. Paleos Panteleimonas is there waiting for you to wander the cobbled alleys in winter-summer. In the village square with the church of Agia Paraskevi with the big plane tree you will find paved streets and taverns around it with delicious food.
In a landscape of incomparable beauty in the south of Pieria in Platamonas, is the Castle of Platamonas, one of the most beautiful and best preserved castles in Greece. It is built at a strategic point, on a rocky ledge, in the blue waters of the Aegean, in the area that fully verifies the name of the place: PLATAMON means "rocky extremities on the sea".
The open archeological site is a long walk on cobbled streets in a forest of age-old trees, lakes and waters and a unique mysterious atmosphere. In Dion there is probably the largest ancient mosaic in Greece, with an area of 100 square meters that you keep in the Archaeological Archive, a space next to the museum of Dion which was built especially for the needs of this particular mosaic.
The Olympus Festival is an annual Music and Theater Festival and an important cultural event in Greece. It is the largest event of its kind in Northern Greece and takes place annually in July and August. The aim is to offer cultural entertainment to both the local population and tourists, thus promoting contact between different cultures and tourism in the area.
The Olympus Marathon is a unique mountain running race. His route follows a sacred course of antiquity, when the pilgrims of the city of Zeus climbed every summer to the peaks of Olympus to honor their supreme god, Zeus. Today the Olympus Marathon transforms this course into a supreme sporting event, with runners following in the footsteps of history in the legendary "mountain of the gods".
